Diet

Let us clarify our terms.  Just what exactly do we mean when we use the word diet? According to the dictionary, we mean

1.
food and drink considered in terms of its qualities, composition, and its effects on health: Milk is a wholesome article of diet.
2.
a particular selection of food, especially as designed or prescribed to improve a person's physical condition or to prevent or treat a disease: a diet low in sugar.
3.
such a selection or a limitation on the amount a person eats for reducing weight.

For the purposes of this website, we will be referring to all of the above.  Fad diets come and go.  The consequences of extreme dieting can be extreme.  Therefore, this website encourages a balanced approach to dieting with the goal being a 2 pound loss per week.  Do not get discouraged if it is less.  This is a lifestyle approach to dieting.

Diet? Again? So, what's new?

Losing weight has been my New Years Resolution for most every year of my adult life.  I have achieved it...several times.  I remember how good I felt.  So...here I go again.  S

i  I have decided on a brand new method.  I suggest we measure weight loss in five pound bags of sugar.  Just think: I need to lose a bag of sugar off of each butt cheek, both thighs, and my abdomen.  Perhaps God will be so good as to throw in a double chin.  As you can see, my goal is to lose 35 pounds or 7 five pound bags of sugar.  That is quite a disquieting thought.  I am carrying around an extra (at least) five five pound bags of sugar every day.  No wonder my legs creak!!!!  A realistic weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week.  I have also found that it is easier for me to lose weight if I set achievable goals.  Whereas 35 pounds sounds almost impossible...five pounds is doable.  I will think of losing only five pounds at a time.  With real effort I should be able to do five pounds every two or three weeks.  Which means I should be able to lose 25 pounds within at least 5 months...at least by the time my novel will be published in the Fall of 2011.  Misery loves company so I invite you to join me in my endeavor.

I suggest you "journal" your daily food consumption just to make yourself aware of what you are eating.

Can we have dessert?  Yes.  But only once a week.  And even then, I encourage you to satisfy yourself by limiting yourself to eating half.  (Go sugar free if you are diabetic (it's really VERY good!) Can we have a glass of wine?  Yes, once a week.  Supplement your fruit that day for a glass of wine.  We're going for the gold -- a healthy body -- and fitting once again into our "pretty" clothes.

Now take a picture of yourself and paste it where you will see it everyday.  The new you will look much different.
