He was often associated with the sainted Metcalf and Gipson ingreatrevivals and many livi n g now can testify to these truths. It washishabit to become filled to over-flowing with div i ne love atthesemeetings. He did not pretend to great brilliancy or oratorical powerinthe p u lpit, but did possess a great zeal, magnanimity and faith, andwasa devout believer in the w r itings and admirer of the life andcharacterof the Apostle Paul. I t chanced that he preached his last sermon in thissection at OldClaybank Church, the chur c h of his youth and the greaterportion of hismanhood, built and for many decades, maintain e d by hisfather andimmediate relatives in main. He seemed to realize and expressedthen hisb e lief that he was delivering his last message to his loved onesandkindred there, asked the m t o meet him in heaven and requested Bro.D.Y.Dowling to sing in the close of the exercise s on e of his favoritehymns,"O when shall I see Jesus and Reign with him above." The songthri lle dhim with rapture and joy and seemed to link together his wholelife, andhis face lighte d an d shone as it had so often done as he stoodthere inthe years gone by, exemplifying tha t peac e which passethunderstanding, and renewing his consecration to the cause of religion an dhi s covenantwith God.

In his early young manhood he married Miss Betsey Ingram, abeautifulbrunette, who survive s h im.

He was buried at the burial place of several members of his family,atProvidence Methodist C h urch, in Geneva county, Alabama. Hisfuneralservices were conducted by Brother Rutledge, pas t or of theDalevillecircuit.
