The Greening of Our Village

It is time to decorate OUR village.  The festivities will begin on November 28, the day after Thanksgiving at 10:00 A.M. with the Greening of our Village.  We will continue our efforts through Saturday, so do not think you are excused just because you cannot make it on Friday.  Last year the total responsibility fell into the hands of our extremely talented Landscape committee.  It was too much for the four of them.  This year they will head a committee on which we are hoping you will participate.

Please email anyone below with suggestions of what you can contribute to the effort...lights, illuminated scenes, tree to decorate, ornaments, and wreaths.  Your personal assistance is also needed.

So, this year everyone else will have an opportunity to assist in the effort.  The committees are:

THE GATE:  Mary and John Darrah

GAZEBO:  Maxine McMartin

DOCK:    Kay Stewart

COMMUNITY ROOM AREA:  Theonne Harris

TREE AND PARK AREA:  Barbara Gallira

After working hard all day, I suggest we all then go to the newly opened Shrimp Boat.

Rules about Wreaths

Everyone may have a wreath on their door.  Our basic theme is Victorian Christmas because that is the style of our building.  The docs say New Orleans, but if you look up New Orleans style on the internet you see Victorian homes.  And, we are, of course, on the coast so those elements would also be included.  If you use natural materials, please let us know.  I would love to take pictures of the wreaths you create and show off your creativity.

Rule # 17 under Use and Maintenance of Units addresses wreaths,

Holiday door wreaths will be allowed.  They are to be or the door itself and not include the door framing.  There may not be lights or sound.  No moving or flashing lights or musical decorations on the balcony.  They must be displayed in a tasteful manner and minimal.  While prior approval is not required the Architectural Committee will oversee compliance of these decorations with the Board having final approval

Rule #2 also applies and should be read:

1.                    A Unit Owner may not make any architectural changes to the interior of a Unit without prior written approval by the Association. All such changes shall become the maintenance responsibility of the Unit Owner. No unit owner shall decorate any part of his unit or the building so as to change the appearance of the unit from the outside. Without limitation, this means that a unit owner may not paint any balcony, illuminate the balcony or the exterior of the building, display any plants or other objects upon balconies or railings or exterior window sills or ledges. Under no circumstances will containers be allowed that will permit water and/or plant fertilizers to soak through to the building floors and/or lower walls and railings. No one may mount any object upon the exterior or roof of the building without the approval of the Board of Directors in writing.

Tree Lighting

On November 30 we will decorate our Christmas Tree in the community room beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Children's Party
We want to our children and grandchildren  to get together on Saturday, December 6 at 10:00 for a Children's Christmas Party.  Dorothy Peterson is baking cookies for the children to decorate.  Each parent/grandparent should deliver a present under $20 to Dr. Ralph Peterson who has been asked to be Santa.  Gerry Clemons has been asked to read the Night Before Christmas (he's got such a good voice!). We would like our children to dress up as a character in the story and as the story is read they may act out their part.  Then Santa will arrive arrive with the gifts.  We will then eat the cookies the children have decorated.

Lily (my granddaughter), Kristina and Phillip (Salie Cotton's grandchildren) will lead the children in singing Christmas carols.  We need a pianist.

                Adult Christmas Football Party

December 6th at 3 p.m. in the Community Room

Everyone is requested to bring their own wine/beverage and a plate of Christmas delicacies or hors d'oeuvres.  Call Patty @ 215-2053 or email mleavins@knology.net
