The Dothan Bank and Trust Company, a state bank, was organized by the Malones about 1910 with A. Y. Malone as president.  It was sold in 1916 to the Flowers family, who moved into the building formerly occupied by the Houston National Bank on the north east corner of Main and St. Andrews.

On April 23, 1862, at age 18, he enlisted in the confederate Army at Greenville, Alabama as a Private. He was assigned to Captain Carter's Company, 2nd Regiment, Alabama Cavalry and there served until July 1863 when he was transferred to Company C., 17th Regiment, Alabama Infantry, with whom he marched in all its campaigns down to Atlanta. Here under General Hood, he fought in the great battle of Atlanta during July 1864. James Drury later told how the ditches of his father's old plantation were their breastworks during this battle. Under Hood's command he marched in the campaigns through northern Alabama into Tennessee. He fought in the battle of Franklin on November 29th and 30th and in the extreme cold of that December, fought in the desperate battle of Nashville where he was one of thousands captured December 15, 1864. He was sent to a prison camp at Camp Douglas, Illinois where he remained a prisoner until the end of the war, being released June 20, 1865. He returned home, walking much of the way, to an emotional reunion with his loved ones.   Drury Flowers Civil War Story
